LINCOLN, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2005--Nephros Therapeutics has changed its name to RenaMed Biologics(TM) (RenaMed(TM)). The name change reflects the company's mission to extend and improve the lives of patients with critical diseases involving severely compromised kidney function. RenaMed is a leading clinical stage company focused on the development of Bio-Replacement Therapies(TM) for Acute Renal Failure and other life-threatening diseases.
RenaMed is the leader in Acute Renal Failure (ARF) clinical development. Its lead product, Renal Bio-Replacement Therapy for ARF, is intended to replace the critical biologic functions of the kidney that are lost in patients with ARF. The product utilizes physiologically active human renal epithelial cells, administered ex vivo in a hollow fiber cartridge. Renal Bio-Replacement Therapy is designed to work in conjunction with existing filtration systems to provide more comprehensive kidney function support. RenaMed's program has been granted Fast Track Designation by the FDA and, if approved, will be the first major development in ARF treatment in over a decade.

The Phase II clinical results of Renal Bio-Replacement Therapy for ARF will be presented at the American Society of Nephrology annual meeting on November 11th. The Phase II trial was a controlled, randomized, multi-center evaluation of the company's product compared to conventional therapy.
