Zelos Therapeutics announced today that it has appointed C. Lynn Barclay, M.D. as Vice President of Medical and Clinical Affairs. Dr. Barclay brings eight years of drug development experience to Zelos. In this newly created position, Dr. Barclay will be responsible for overseeing the Company's clinical development programs for Ostabolin-C(TM).
Zelos also announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors. Jan van Heek, Senior Advisor to the CEO and executive team at Genzyme, joins Zelos' Board as an independent director with over two decades of biotechnology and pharmaceutical company operations experience. Nick Photiades, Director of Life Sciences at BDC Venture Capital, joins Zelos' Board in conjunction with his firm's participation as a new investor in the recently announced Series A3 financing.
"As we expand our portfolio of clinical development programs in the coming months to include a Phase II osteoporosis trial of Ostabolin-C(TM) injection, the development of a pulmonary formulation of the drug for the treatment of osteoporosis, and the initiation of clinical trials for a topical treatment of psoriasis, we are extremely fortunate to have Lynn join our team," stated Robert (Duffy) DuFresne, President and Chief Executive Officer of Zelos. "Furthermore, we welcome Jan and Nick to the Zelos Board and look forward to the important contributions they will make to the growth and development of our business."
Dr. Barclay comes to Zelos from PRA International where she was Vice President of Global Product Development Services. Her eight years of drug development experience include setting up and managing a medical affairs department, safety management of clinical trials and programs, including two New Drug Applications, protocol and program development, the production of regulatory documents and provision of regulatory advice and support. Dr. Barclay received her M.D. and bachelors degree from the University of Ottawa, Ontario.
Jan van Heek is currently a senior executive of Genzyme Corporation. Mr. van Heek joined Genzyme in 1991, and during his tenure at the company, he has been responsible for building the worldwide therapeutics, surgical and genetic testing businesses. He established Genzyme's European offices in the early 90's; after moving to the U.S., Mr. van Heek helped build Genzyme's broad portfolio of businesses and manufacturing infrastructure worldwide. In recent years he served as Executive Vice President with overall responsibility for the therapeutic products business of Genzyme. Prior to Genzyme, Mr. van Heek held various management positions at Baxter Healthcare Corporation in Europe and the U.S. for over a decade. In addition to his board seat with Zelos, Mr. van Heek is a board member of Viacell Corporation in Cambridge, Mass. and Cardialysis CRO in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Mr. Photiades joined BDC Venture Capital in 1996 and currently serves as Director of Life Sciences. Prior to joining BDC, Mr. Photiades was actively involved in corporate financing, restructuring and development of small and medium sized enterprises with the BDC lending team. He was also responsible for BDC`s lending and management operations in Western Quebec. Mr. Photiades sits on the Board of Directors of several public and private high technology companies as well as the Saint Mary's Hospital Foundation.
